Following his receipt of the prestigious “von Behring-Röntgen Nachwuchspreis” for his pioneering research into the role of alveolar macrophages in resolving lung inflammation after acute lung injury, Julian Better has taken the next step in his scientific career.
On 8 December, he successfully defended his PhD thesis, titled ‘Cell-type-specific efferocytosis restricts the functional plasticity of alveolar macrophages to prioritise resolution of inflammation over antibacterial defence’, achieving the highest mark of summa cum laude.
Following his 30-minute presentation, in which he shared key findings from his research, Julian engaged in a discussion with the examination committee: PD Dr. Ulrich Matt (supervisor), Prof. Johan Garaude, Prof. Dr. Friedemann Weber and Prof. Dr. Stephanie Krämer.
We would like to congratulate you sincerely on this impressive achievement and wish you all the best for your future academic and personal goals.
