We Welcome Prof. Dr. Paolo Panza to the Herold Lab!

We are delighted to announce that Prof. Dr. Paolo Panza has joined the Herold Lab as a lung organoids and tissue engineering professor for advanced disease modeling.

Prof. Panza leads the newly established Lung Organoids and Tissue Engineering group, focusing on lung alveolar formation and regeneration mechanisms. His research aims to understand how specific cell types arise and organize into functional structures within the alveolus, the gas exchange unit of the lung. Utilizing 3D lung organoids, his team models human lung development in vitro, mimicking key stages of fetal lung maturation, including branching morphogenesis and the emergence of type 1 and 2 alveolar epithelial cells.

Before joining us, Prof. Panza conducted postdoctoral research at the Max Planck Institute for Heart and Lung Research in Bad Nauheim, Germany, investigating developmental genetics related to lung biology.

We are excited to have Prof. Panza on board and look forward to the innovative contributions his expertise will bring to our research community.
